The Lied Discovery Children's Museum

The Lied Discovery Children's Museum (LDCM) is a 22,000-square-foot (2,000 m2) facility located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The museum is located across Las Vegas Boulevard from the Las Vegas Natural History Museum. The LDCM shares its building with the Las Vegas Library branch of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and offers over 100 hands-on exhibits.

Since opening to the public in September 1990, Lied Discovery Children’s Museum has established itself as an important community resource, becoming one of the metropolitan area’s major educational institutions serving children and families. To date, more than 1.6 million people have visited the Museum and more than 400,000 children have participated in school field trip programs designed to supplement the curriculum in innovative ways.
The participatory nature of the Museum’s exhibits and programs encourages interaction between child and adult, providing an opportunity for them to share a special learning experience through the joy of discovery. The Museum is centrally located for easy access from all areas of Las Vegas, and is committed to serving children and families from economically and culturally diverse backgrounds.

Relocation

In 2010 the museum announced plans to construct and occupy a new home and larger home in Symphony Park.Scheduled to open in November 2012, it will be named the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum and will cost $55 million.
